| Attended by 80 participants, this was the latest in our very successful series of choral workshops on music for specific occasions. Modern settings of the communion service on Common Worship texts by Louis Halsey , Philip Ledger and Grayston Ives were introduced, along with four motets from the New Oxford Easy Anthem Book (OUP 2002), Ave verum corpus by de Pearsall and Saint-Saëns , Lord, I trust thee (Handel) and O salutaris hostia no. 3 (Elgar). The afternoon ended with a short service using some of the music studied, led by the Rev Canon Tim Wimbush, and some participants then attended a short organ recital in Magdalen College Chapel, followed by Evensong. An article by Archbishop Rowan Williams on the singing of the communion service appears here. |
